Prickly Pear is actually two islands, separated by a narrow inlet which is over 20 feet deep.  The larger cay to the west is very rugged with no beaches or landing sites.  The small cay to the east is has beaches on the northeast and east, and is home to Johnno's beach bar which is open for charter boats from St. Martin.  In calm weather, there is good snorkeling and diving on the south side.  Anchoring/mooring is only permited in the deep cove on the southwest corner of the eastern cay - no anchoring is allowed on the north side.
